LAUGHARNE ATHLETIC CRICKET CLUB

The Beginning

A Cricket Club has existed in Laugharne since about 1870 however the first AGM of the club was held on the 28th April 1889, and this is recognised as the date at which the club was founded. The Centenary year was celebrated in 1989 where Laugharne CC played Glamorgan County CC XI. Some of today's top cricketers played in that match!

The Cricket Club got their current field, Wooford's around 1951 where they have played ever since.

FIRST 100 YEARS:

The Centenary Year was in 1989 when Glamorgan C.C. played Laugharne. Such up and coming players as Tony Cottey, David Hemp and Robert Croft took part in the Centenary Match (Croft's name was spelled wrongly and Hemp's was spelled "Help!")
A Centenary Book was published and memorabilia was sold during the celebrations.

Present Day History

At the start of the 2014 season the committee were sad to announce that there would be no league cricket within the club for that season due to the lack of interest. Friendly matches were arranged to keep the club going.

In 2016 a couple of players approached the committee requesting to trial running a junior section due to the amount of children interesting in playing cricket after contact by parents. The club was on the verge of folding and saw the request as a life line and last chance to save the club. The summer trial was a huge success and a decision was made to contact the Pembrokeshire League to make enquires for the junior teams to become part of a league setup for the 2017 season. After lots of dialog and conditions to meet set by Pembrokeshire, Laugharne under 11 and Under 9’s sides were accepted back into Pembrokeshire.

During the winter of 2016 Pembrokeshire County approached Laugharne about entering a senior side back into the league, something the club had been longing for 20 plus years.

Currently the club is going from strength to strength running age groups as follows for the 2017 season:-
• Senior side – 30 players registered – playing in the Pembrokeshire 5th Division.
• All Stars(age 4 -8 year olds) - 26 children taking part.
• Under 9 team (currently 2 teams) – 24 mixed boys and girls – Pembrokeshire festival cricket.
• Under 11 team – 13 players – Pembrokeshire under 11 League.
Measures are in place for an under 13 team for the 2018 season.
